Lecturing

Lectures aimed to needs of future physics teachers:

  • Physics I (classical mechanics)

  • Theoretical Mechanics

  • Classical Electrodynamics

  • Theory of Relativity

  • Selected Chapters from Physics I

  • Modern Trends in Physics Education

Special seminars for future physics teachers (with I. Koudelkova):

  • Electricity and Magnetism Step by Step
  • Optics Step by Step
(In the past also other seminars: Physics Panorama, Problems in Physics Education, Selected Experiments for Future Physics Teachers, General Relativity, Programming, etc.)

Professional interests

evolved from:

General relativity  (namely perturbation of black holes)

through:

Computers in physics education  (especially modelling in physics education)

to:

Physics education (in general)

In last years I am particularly interested in:

- low cost experiments and how they can be combined with theory

- projects that can be organized at spring and summer camps for students

- projects and activities that can improve both pre-service and in-service training of physics teachers

Personal note:

The question I perceive as most important and I would like to contribute to solve is:

How to improve physics education?

(Especially, but not only, the pre-service and in-service training of physics teachers.)

And my motto concerning these aims:
"It is better to lit a small candle than to damn darkness."    (Confucius)

Employment

All professional life is connected with Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University in Prague:

1975-1978:    “aspirant” (Ph.D. student), Dept. of Mathematical Physics
